Spotlight on a Yarrawarrah Physi Girl

Picture
Name:  Jodi-Ann
Age Group: Extended Ladies
How long have you been doing Physi: 2015 is my 31st year of Physi, I started in 1984.
How did you get involved in Physi: I have two older sisters and apparently sat on Mum's lap while they did Physi. As a baby she bent my toes over to make them pointy. I don't have the best toes so not sure if her theory worked! Mum is a founding member of the Yarrawarrah Physi club.
Favourite Physi routine: Hands down it is lunge group, closely followed by rhythm.
Physi highlight: Winning Grand Champion Girl in 2006.
Favourite Physi quote: "The sun always comes up tomorrow..." Whatever the outcome of the Physi competition the sun always comes up the next day and you have your family and Phyis friends. My mum always reminded me to leave Physi on the Physi floor. Mrs Keene always enforced this and I think that is what makes Yarrawarrah so special. When you are in a class with so many good girls, any one of you can win so learning to be happy for each other and celebrating each other's success is so important. You work hard all year alongside each other, helping and encouraging each other. I am always so thankful for my Yarrawarrah friends next to me on the stage.
Funniest Physi moment: Physi camps down at Bundeena. Groups were formed during the Saturday and as part of the Saturday night entertainment each of these groups would perform. I will never forget performing 'You better shape up' from Grease with Mrs Keene as Danny and me as Sandy!
Biggest Physi influence: Karen Keene. This lady has been a massive role model in my life and still is today. What she has done and achieves with Yarrawarrah Physi is outstanding. She has provided so many girls with love and support as they achieve their Physi goals. She means so much to so many girls and she has given so much of herself to each of us. Even though she is our loving teacher, she is still a wife to Mike and a mother to Kimberley and Johnathon. She has been my teacher for 31 years and I treasure each and every one of them. She has loved and supported me throughout my Physi career and I am very grateful.

My Mum, Jenny Bartlett. An amazing lady. The countless hours of preparing her girls for Physi through sequinning dresses or leotards, watching us practise, painting ballets (back in the day!), setting hair, perfecting boofs, pinning wiglets, gluing jewels, sewing elastics, taking late night phone calls to encourage and inspire, shopping for hair pieces, eyelashes, sweater girl bras.... just to name a few is a symbol of the love and dedication of a mother whose daughter loves Physi. She puts her heart and soul into everything I love. I constantly have to remind myself to thank her for all that she does for my sisters, nieces, my own Physi daughter and me. I am thankful for my mum starting me in Physi.

Future Physi goals: This may sound corny but to continue to love Physi for fun, friends and fitness at any age and stage of life.
What you love about Physi: As I have gotten older I have become more aware of people looking at me and I have become very nervous when I get out on the competition floor. With this in mind, I pretend every lessons is like I'm performing on the Town Hall stage. I love every Physi lesson. I am excited at the beginning of the year as we learn the new syllabus so I can think through it, try to perfect it and perform it. I love working out with my Physi friends and the ins and outs of teams. Especially getting on and off the floor, every step is thought of and accounted for. I love working with my friends to bring out our best whether that be in teams or individually on the Physi floor. I just love Physi!

Thank you Jodi-Ann. You are an amazing role model to all the girls at Yarrawarrah Physi.
