Spotlight on a Yarrawarrah Physi Girl

Picture
Name: Rachael
Age Group: Open Seniors
How long have you been doing Physi: This is my 32nd year
How did you get involved in Physi:  We moved to Engadine when I was 5. My neighbour did Physi (she was a few years older than me), but also my Mum had done Physi when she was younger.
Favourite Physi routine: Well I love the idea of the dance. But I am definitely not a dancer. I can't say I have the same favourite routine every year. This year, so far, it is Lunge group.
Physi highlight: 2 career highlights that stand out are being part of the winning Open Seniors team in 2014. Our team worked so hard, to win the title for a tenth year in a row. And of course winning Open Seniors Shorts in 2011, the year between having my boys.
Favourite Physi quote:
"I'll get it right on the day" (I really struggle with flexibility, but I rely on adrenaline to kick in on the day)
Funniest Physi moment: So many funny moments. One that I remember from a couple of years ago. Ella had a bruise on her arm, so naturally I had to press it. It was like a button, because the same time I pressed the 'button', Karen’s chair leg slipped off the back of the stage. Ok I know it doesn't sound funny, but yes Karen was ok, I suppose you just had to be there....
Biggest Physi influence: The teachers. Karen has been a constant through my Physi life. We are so lucky to have such a loving teacher who is so dedicated to her Physi, and the girls. I have so much respect for her and I pray her health is improving. Having our other teachers helping out, Ella, Kimmy, Jodi-Ann and in the past Jodie (Sanderson). They each bring their own style of teaching with so much Physi experience, and all being Physi champions. Growing up Leanne Henderson was my Physi idol. And of course recently, Melissa James
Future Physi goals: To never (ever, ever) give up Physi.
What you love about Physi:  I really switch off and forget about everything else in my life while I'm at Physi. With being a working mum of 2 little, full on boys, it's my time out. Seeing my Physi friends twice a week. I honestly love my Open senior class and of course now the younger girls coming up into Inters. We have a lot of laughs and I have made lifelong friends throughout my whole Physi life. I feel maybe, because of my age, that I should be moving onto ladies, but my heart is not ready to move on from Opens just yet. I love the exercise and the challenges. I love the commitment the girls make, especially at team time and that everyone gets along. I also love the time I get with my Mum at comp time. She is my number 1 supporter and I honestly would not still be doing it without her.
